The birth and progress of Azimut yachts is a story rich in luxury boating and sailing. Starting off in sailing boat chartering, the Italian yacht manufacturer Azimut was founded by Paolo Vitelli in 1969.

Starting off in sailing boat chartering, the Italian yacht manufacturer Azimut was founded by Paolo Vitelli in 1969. In the 70s, the company saw its operations expand as it distributed yachts in Italy and began designing new models such as the AZ 43’ Bali boat, one of the largest fibreglass boats at that time. In the wake of its success, Azimut Yachts then created in 1977 the AZ 32’ Targa, helping to corner the market for affordability. The years up to 1985 saw them take on the challenges of meeting the very discerning luxury mega yacht market. This lead Azimut to conceive the 105’ Failaka – the largest yacht of the range composed completely of fibreglass. A milestone moment followed in 1985 as Azimut acquired the long-standing mega yacht brand Benetti. This meant that Azimut could now, as part of the Azmit Benetti Group, directly manufacture its own yachts. | Azimut yachts took on bold new shapes, with a level of luxury inspired by the automotive industry. Features like large panoramic frameless panes of glass firmly established Azimut. The subsequent decades brought a period a mass expansion, as the company acquired new boatyards at Fano, established a new site at Avigliana and expanded overseas in Brazil. Since its beginnings 40 years ago, Azimut-Benetti has continued a strong commitment to investing in its future.
