Robert then went on in the 1960s to work at Friar’s Cliff Marine (later to become Poole Powerboats). When its American parent company decided to wind down the company, Robert stepped in with an investment that helped  to turn around its fortunes and kick-start its first foray into marine craft. Work began and with the market expanding he helped to introduce a range of new sports cruisers.

By the mid-seventies, the first Sovereign 17 and 20 models were rolling off the production line.  Hot on the heels of the models’ success, the company’s team pioneered a new sports cruiser – the Sports 23 and Day Cab 23.

This heralded a bold direction for the company as it emerged as Sunseeker International and dreamt up a new first for the European market in the shape of the Offshore 28. Dynamic hull shapes leapt off the drawing board and larger boats such as the two-cabin Portofino 31 were created. Fulfilling the fast-paced glamourous lifestyle of the eighties, the Tomahawk 37 was also born.

In the 90s, Sunseeker took design cues from the auto industry, incorporating luxurious fittings and smooth lines as well as new technology such as twin jet drives into its new Renegade 60. While the Predator 80 set the standard for high performance.

Into the 2000s and Sunseeker created the 105 Superyacht. This set the path for the 37M and 40M Ocean series among a range of over 140 superyachts.
